Animoca-Backed brawler DARKTIMES will launch on Sui in 2024

Get ready to channel your inner viking as DARKTIMES, the Nordic-inspired, web3, brawler royale, confirms its alpha launch for late 2024.

Featuring a moody mediaeval setting, DARKTIMES promises to deliver a fast-paced multiplayer PvP experience that leverages RPG-style skill trees and progression systems for a more hands-on control over typical hyper-casual Battle Royale games.

Player input won’t just be limited to the development of their characters either. The free-to-play title’s developer, Blowfish Studios, has adopted Sui as its blockchain platform of choice via a partnership with Mysten Labs, with the aim of building a social-driven gaming ecosystem that puts player interests first.

Aside from the brutality and blood-magic you’d expect of a Nordic inspired brawler, DARKTIMES also throws in a dash of British-style gallows humour and Tarantino-esque over-the-top barbarity; if you can picture Trevor from GTA5 donning chain-mail and wielding a battle-axe into the face of his enemies whilst tossing out absurd non-sequiturs then you might get a feel of the darkly-comic violence that lies in wait.

One aspect of the DARKTIMES that you can certainly depend upon will be being able to seamlessly onboard with the game. By launching on Sui, the game abstracts away blockchain elements that ensure the playing environment is as frictionless as possible; the results of which will be on display during the game’s first playtest at Korea Blockchain Week, followed by an alpha launch of the game to select users later in the year.

“Development for DARKTIMES began in stealth back in late 2021, and we are excited to finally introduce it to the world, beginning at Korea Blockchain Week,” said Lucien Dorman, founder and CEO of DARKTIMES. “DARKTIMES has always sought to provide players with a gaming experience indistinguishable from traditional gaming ecosystems. We’ve opted to build on Sui in order to reduce friction and complexity for non-crypto native players, making it easier than ever for web3 gaming to become an enjoyable experience for everyone.

Rune Run, DARKTIMES’ interactive “play-to-play” campaign, begins on August 30 in partnership with several of the largest web3 gaming and crypto communities including Mocaverse, GAM3S.GG, MON Protocol, and W3GG, among others. Gamers can participate to win Genesis DARKTIMES NFTs, which will serve to provide early access to DARKTIMES when it officially launches in late 2024. The NFTs will also provide players with entry to advanced levels that contain larger prize pools and other game-focused rewards.
