Apple’s next-generation iPhone lineup, which will include the iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, in addition to two other standard models, is shaping up to bring a substantial update including new features and design changes over previous generation models. In this story, we take a deep dive into all the latest rumors and reports to share everything we know about the iPhone 16 Pro so far.

Starting off with the design, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are expected to continue to feature a titanium chassis, as introduced with the iPhone 15 Pro. However, the devices are expected to include Apple’s first size update in several years. The iPhone 16 Pro will reportedly see a size increase to 6.3 inches (up from 6.1), while the Pro Max will grow to 6.9 inches (up from 6.7).

The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are expected to be available in four finishes: Black Titanium, White Titanium, Natural Titanium, and ‘Rose,’ a new titanium finish expected to debut in the lineup for the first time. As shown by The Apple Post in these new and exclusive renders, the new Rose finish is expected to have a strong pink hue.

The iPhone’s body dimensions will expand along with the larger display size. Both models are anticipated to be taller and wider compared to the iPhone 15 Pro models. Although the thickness will remain the same, the weight is expected to increase slightly due to the larger size.

The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are anticipated to retain the same power, volume, and Action buttons as the iPhone 15 Pro models, with no design changes. However, a new feature expected in the iPhone 16 Pro lineup is an “Capture Button,” located on the same side as the Power button.

This new button will be mechanical rather than capacitive, yet it will still respond to pressure and touch. Users will be able to zoom in and out by swiping left or right on the button, focus with a light press, and start recording with a firmer press.

The ability to detect different pressure levels will allow the Capture Button to function like a two-step shutter button, similar to those on digital cameras—a feature familiar to many users. The Capture Button will be included on all four iPhone 16 models and will be used for taking photos and videos.

Following its launch exclusively on the 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Pro Max last year, Apple is widely rumored to be bringing its tetraprism periscope camera with 5x optical zoom to the smaller iPhone 16 Pro this year, enabling both products in the series to shoot with 5x optical zoom and 25x digital zoom, a significant improvement over previous models limited to 3x optical zoom. In addition to enhanced optical zoom capabilities, the periscope lens is also expected to improve overall image stabilization and low-light performance.

Rumors suggest that all models in the iPhone 16 lineup will feature larger batteries than their predecessors. The iPhone 16 Pro is expected to see a 9% increase in battery capacity, with the iPhone 16 Pro Max gaining a 5% increase.

The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will continue to feature USB-C charging, with rumors suggesting that Apple’s SIM-free design and the addition of a 5G mmWave antenna may expand to users outside of the United States for the first time.

Apple’s 2024 Pro models are anticipated to include Wi-Fi 7, allowing them to utilize the 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz bands simultaneously. This enhancement is expected to deliver faster Wi-Fi speeds, reduced latency, and more reliable connectivity.

Powering the iPhone 16 Pro lineup is expected to be an all-new A18 Pro chip, which rumors point to being able to provide enhanced computational power for Apple’s upcoming suite of Apple Intelligence features, which will be released later in the year with iOS 18.1.

Other iPhone 16 Pro rumors include support for 40W wired fast charging and 20W MagSafe charging, upgrades to the microphone to improve the new Apple Intelligence-enhanced Siri experience, and new storage capacities including a 2TB model, double the maximum storage capacity of the iPhone 15 Pro models.
